Toreros Preparing to Take on Pacific and Santa Clara


STOCKTON/SAN DIEGO – Returning to the courts for another week off West Coast Conference play, the San Diego women’s basketball team (4-19, 0-14) are splitting their week between Northern and Southern California. 

The Toreros will begin their week in the Central Valley as they’re set to take on the Pacific Tigers (12-13, 8-7 WCC) on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6:00 p.m. from the Alex G. Spanos Center. 

USD will then return home to host the Santa Clara Broncos (13-12, 7-8 WCC) on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2:00 p.m. inside Jenny Craig Pavilion. Saturday will also feature USD’s Catholic Schools Day celebration, as the Torero men’s team will play at 7:00 p.m., while San Diego baseball will play at 6:00 p.m. next door at Fowler Park.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Toreros are looking to bounce back after dropping a 58-50 decision to Oregon State last Saturday at Jenny Craig Pavilion. 
  • Truitt Reilly turned in another great game by scoring 16 points on 7-of-12 from the field to go along with five rebounds and four assists against the Beavers. 
  • Ava Ranson also had a nice performance against Oregon State as she scored 10 points and dished out three assists while going a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line. 

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. PACIFIC

  • Thursday night’s game in Stockton will be the 38th all-time matchup between the two programs as the Toreros lead the overall series 22-15.
  • In the first meeting between the two sides during the 2024-25 season, Pacific picked up a 72-66 victory at Jenny Craig Pavilion back on January 4. 
  • Elizabeth Elliott had a big game against the Toreros in San Diego as she recorded 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists back in early January. 

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SANTA CLARA

  • Saturday afternoon’s game against the Broncos will be the 88th all-time meeting from the long time WCC foes with USD holding a slight 44-43 edge. 
  • The two teams first played in the South Bay back in mid-January as Santa Clara earned a 67-59 victory on their home floor. 
  • SCU’s senior forward Olivia Pollerd was tremendous for the Broncos in the first meeting between the programs as she scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds back at the Leavey Center. 

SCOUTING THE TIGERS 

  • Pacific enters the middle of February with a 12-13 overall record to go along with an 8-7 overall mark in West Coast Conference action. 
  • The Tigers emerged victorious in their last game as the defeated Pepperdine at home by a 68-41 margin to break their three game conference losing streak entering last Saturday. 
  • USD will have their hands full looking to slow down graduate student guard Liz Smith who’s started all 25 games for her team while averaging 14.2 PPG and just over three assists per game.  

SCOUTING THE BRONCOS

  • Santa Clara begins the week with a 13-12 overall record to go along with a 7-8 mark in WCC play. 
  • USD will have their hands full trying to slow down senior guard Malia Latu who’s second on the Broncos in points per game at 10.8 while shooting 42% from the field this season. 
  • As a team, the Broncos have excelled at limiting their opponent’s outside shooting as they’re allowing just a 25.4% three-point percentage more than halfway through league action.
