Shilo Sanders won’t be getting a new car from his father after failing to run a 4.4 40-yard dash at Colorado’s pro day on Friday.
Sanders’ best time in the 40 was clocked at 4.52 seconds.
Deion Sanders, Shilo’s father, recently said he would buy his son a new car if ran the 40 in 4.4 seconds.
If Shilo’s best time had come in at 4.49 seconds, that would have opened up an interesting debate between father and son.
Even though 4.49 would round up to 4.5 if you go to a single decimal, the fact it is technically in the 4.4 range could give Shilo the case that he hit the mark.
In the original video issuing the challenge, Coach Prime never specified it had to be exactly 4.4 seconds. Sadly, the debate is a moot point because Shilo just missed the 4.49-second mark.
Of course, Deion could easily buy his son a new car without thinking about it. Colorado’s board of regents just approved a new five-year, $54 million contract extension for Deion last week, tying him to the school through the 2029 season.
The deal made Sanders the fourth-highest-paid FBS head coach with a $10.8 million average annual salary. His $10 million salary in 2025 is tied with North Carolina’s Bill Belichick for eighth-most among FBS coaches.
Shilo, 25, began his college career in 2019 at South Carolina. He played two seasons with the Gamecocks before following his father and brother, Shedeur, to Jackson State.
After Deion was hired by Colorado in December 2022, Shilo and Shedeur transferred to join him. Shilo recorded 137 combined tackles, three tackles for loss and one interception in 21 games over two seasons as a starting safety with the Buffaloes.
Shilo is considered a fringe draft prospect in the 2025 class, but he could catch with a team as an undrafted free agent if he’s not selected.
