Patrick Renna is adding a new addition to his family!
The Sandlot alum, 45, and his wife Jasmin are expecting their third baby together, a daughter, a rep for the couple exclusively shares with PEOPLE. The new bundle of joy will join the couple’s two sons, Liam, 4, and Flynn, 7, making them a family of five.
“We were convinced we were having our third boy because I mistakenly looked at our second son’s test results from 2020. Whoops!” Renna tells PEOPLE. “So, for two weeks, we were all set on welcoming another little guy — until the doctor called and told us the real news.”
“Finding out we’re having a baby girl was the best surprise, and my wife, our two boys, and I couldn’t be more excited to meet her,” he sweetly adds.

To celebrate the upcoming arrival, Renna, his pregnant wife and their two boys took family photos on the beach. While they all wore blue jeans with beige sweaters, the soon-to-be mom of three adorned a sweater with the words “Mama To Be” on it.
More than three decades after the actor made his silver screen debut in the coming-of-age comedy The Sandlot in 1993, Renna is passing on his wisdom to the next generation of young baseball players.
The proud dad is gearing up to release his debut children’s book, A Little Slugger’s Guide to the Unwritten Rules of Baseball and Life, which hits the shelves on Feb. 25. In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE ahead of the book’s release, Renna said that the inspiration behind his foray into writing began with his children.
“First of all, for sure having kids — because reading books and finding the right books and the messages and things like that are really important with younger kids and all the way into the double digits and early teens,” he told PEOPLE.

As for the book’s topic, Renna said he was pulling from his own “love of baseball” and his acting start playing a young baseball player in the ’90s. A Little Slugger’s Guide, pairing Renna’s writing with illustrations by Tommy Parker, incorporates moments of baseball history with anecdotes from The Sandlot for a young player in need of some guidance on the field — and in life as well.
“Combining lessons in life with lessons in baseball was a lot of fun to do,” Renna said. “It’s amazing how similar it is to life and how, if you have a good head on your shoulders or you have a good outlook on sports, that can transfer over into life.”
Renna shared that he tries to finish work by 5 p.m. during the week to maximize the time he can hang with his kids, but he especially credits his “amazing partner and wife” for being an “incredible mother.”
“I call myself like a C-plus, B-minus dad,” Renna he PEOPLE with a laugh. “I’m not the worst, but I got some learning to do — that’s for sure.”
