THROUGH MORNING: Showers and storms will develop in the Midstate overnight, and expand toward sunrise. Temperatures will rise overnight as well. It will be around 50 at sunrise.
FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY – SATURDAY:
Saturday is a First Alert Weather Day for the threat for flooding and severe thunderstorms.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will kick off the day. Watch for very heavy downpours that lead to flooding of poor drainage areas. Temperatures will begin the day around 50°. The peak temperature will reach the mid-60s.
A gusty south wind will bring in more humidity and warmer air during the afternoon. The steadiest, heaviest rain will shift to our northwestern communities during the afternoon. Meanwhile, southern and southeastern Middle Tennessee will get a chance to dry out for several hours.
Late Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening, an organized line of strong to severe storms will move through with torrential windswept downpours. Watch for flooding, damaging wind gusts, and even isolated tornadoes. The severe threat for the Midstate will start around 4 pm across the northwest tier and end by 3 am Sunday along the Cumberland Plateau.
In general, 3″ to 6″ of rain looks likely for Nashville and points northwestward to include northwest Middle Tennessee and southwest Kentucky. Isolated spots will receive even higher totals.
Farther south, 1″ to 3″ of rain is expected southeast of Nashville.
SUNDAY:
Windy and colder weather is expected Sunday with falling temperatures into the 30s. There could even be a few snow flurries, although the best chance for that will be along the Cumberland Plateau.
NEXT WEEK:
Monday, Presidents Day, looks chilly but tranquil. Morning low in the mid-20s. The afternoon high near 40.
Clouds will increase again late Tuesday, high in the mid-40s.
FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY – WEDNESDAY:
Wednesday is a First Alert Weather Day for the potential for accumulating snow in Middle Tennessee.
Snow will develop from west to east just after midnight, early Wednesday. Snow will spread eastward and likely accumulate. For now, this storm system looks weak and won’t hang around long, so minor accumulations appear most likely. That said, even an inch or two of snow in Middle Tennessee can have a major impact on travel. The high will be in the upper 30s.
Be sure to check back with the First Alert Weather Team frequently on this developing winter storm in the days to come.
THURSDAY & FRIDAY:
Arctic air will take over on Thursday and stick around into Friday. Morning lows in the teens and the afternoon high near 30 Thursday and 40 Friday.
