BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Most days when it’s warm and humid, there’s enough “potential energy” to support thunderstorms and even severe weather, but on a lot of these days the trigger for said storms is missing.
Both Saturday and Sunday have plenty of “juice” in the atmosphere to work with, but we expect Saturday to be completely dry, and Sunday is a “watch and see” type of day. The difference? A weak cold front that will move into the area to finish the weekend.

Showers and storms are possible along this same front this evening and tonight to the north of our area, where some model data suggested those storms could sneak into the Brazos Valley overnight and into Sunday morning, that looks much less likely today. While it is worth keeping an eye on, we do not expect much in the way of rain or storms by wake up time Sunday.

That said, as this front drifts into our area, some scattered showers and isolated storms will be possible throughout the day and into the evening. IF (right now, a big “If”) storms trigger, they will have a wealth of upper level energy to start pushing out strong wind and dropping hail.

At the moment, we think the much higher potential and much more likely trigger for storms exists to our north and east, where a severe weather outbreak is expected before the end of the weekend. With all the data we have at our disposal, we are leaving a modest 30% chance for showers and storms Sunday, while knowing that things could go from 0-100 quite quickly. Overall, keep your weekend plans intact, and keep tuned on your KBTX Weather app as we keep you updated throughout what may end up being a perfectly quiet spring Sunday.
